Chesterfield drivers, brace yourselves for significant travel headaches! You're being warned to add extra time to your commutes as temporary traffic lights have thrown a wrench into the works, causing widespread disruption.
It all kicked off last night, Tuesday, February 3rd, at 10 pm when temporary traffic lights were erected on Hollis Lane, a stone's throw from the familiar Bridge Inn. The reason behind this inconvenience? Essential Network Rail works are underway.
And this is the part most people miss: While these lights are necessary for the rail work, the impact on local traffic has been immediate and severe. This morning, drivers reported nightmare traffic conditions across town, with lengthy queues forming on surrounding routes. It seems the disruption is far more extensive than just a few extra minutes!
But here's where it gets controversial... While Network Rail is carrying out vital infrastructure maintenance, the timing and management of these temporary traffic lights have clearly caught many by surprise, leading to what some are calling an avoidable traffic gridlock.
The good news, if you can call it that, is that these temporary lights are scheduled to be removed by 7 am on Friday, February 6th. Until then, motorists are strongly advised to plan their journeys with ample extra time.
Network Rail has been contacted for a statement on the situation.
What do you think? Were these delays an unavoidable consequence of essential work, or could they have been managed better? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below – we'd love to hear if you agree or disagree with this assessment!
