A Hull KR Legend Departs: A New Chapter Begins. After two decades of unwavering dedication, Jason Netherton, a true cornerstone of Hull KR, has bid farewell to the club. This marks the end of an era, but also the exciting beginning of a new chapter for both Netherton and the team.
Netherton's journey with Hull KR began in 2004 as a player. Imagine the dedication it takes to commit to a single club for such a long time! He transitioned to the coaching staff after retiring, continuing to pour his heart and soul into the team. The Hull native, now 43 years old, made nearly 200 appearances for the Robins over 10 years. He even started his professional career with Leeds Rhinos back in 2001. He officially retired in 2014, solidifying his legacy as one of the club's most devoted servants.
Netherton shared an emotional message, expressing his gratitude and excitement for the future. He stated, "After over 20 years at Hull KR, my time at the club has come to a conclusion." He continued, "It has been one of my life’s pleasures to be involved with such a fantastic club, both as a player for 10 years and then transitioning into coaching and finally as management." He also expressed his pride in rebuilding the academy post-Covid, thanking everyone who supported him along the way.
His departure follows other significant changes at Hull KR, including the exits of Danny Ward and Shaun Kenny-Dowall after the 2025 season.
But here's where it gets interesting... The club has already brought in new faces, with Ian Watson and Luke Gale stepping in as assistant coaches to support Willie Peters. This is a clear indication that Hull KR is gearing up for a strong title-defending campaign.
