Lucy Letby's parents express outrage over Netflix's 'invasive' documentary
The parents of Lucy Letby, convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others, have slammed Netflix's upcoming documentary as an 'absolute invasion of privacy'. In a statement to the Sunday Times, Susan and John Letby expressed their distress, stating that the footage, including their home being used for the arrest, would be 'heartbreaking' and 'likely kill us'.
The documentary, titled 'The Investigation of Lucy Letby', is set to air on February 4th and will feature never-before-seen footage of Letby's arrest, where she was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder while in bed, and led out in her dressing gown. Her parents are particularly concerned about the footage of Letby being arrested in her bedroom, saying it is 'even more distressing' and that it will make their home a 'tourist attraction'.
The couple also questioned why police released video of Letby's arrest, which took place in their house, and expressed their worry that it would turn their home into a 'tourist attraction'. They claimed that the investigating officer, Det Supt Paul Hughes, seemed to have a 'deep hatred' of them, and questioned why he was allowed to show the world what happened in their house without Netflix's decency to inform them.
Letby, 36, is serving 15 whole-life terms for her crimes. The documentary also includes interviews with police and lawyers, and has been met with criticism from Letby's parents, who believe it is an invasion of their privacy and will cause them further distress.
