The second wave of influenza is expected in early spring, making it a critical time for vaccination. Additionally, Manitoba is grappling with a prolonged measles outbreak, with high transmission rates. Dr. Roussin advises Manitobans to ensure their families are up to date with the measles vaccine, particularly before attending large gatherings. The region around Ag Days in Brandon has seen a surge in measles cases, prompting the expansion of vaccine eligibility to children aged 6 months to 12 months in the Prairie Mountain Health region. This decision aligns with the eligibility criteria in Southern Health-Sante Sud. Dr. Roussin urges individuals who believe they've been exposed to measles to check their immunization records and take preventive measures, including staying home and avoiding public spaces if symptoms arise.
