Mayfield, likewise, would likely enter Chicago’s top five prospects, boasting elite control for a player of his age.
The Mets, meanwhile, would snag two of the Padres’ strongest hitting prospects: Jett Williams and Jacob Reimer. Williams, the Mets’ 2022 first-round pick, hit .261/.363/.465 (136 wRC+) across Binghamton and Syracuse, swatting 17 home runs while stealing 34 bases and playing multiple infield positions and center field. Reimer enjoyed an even stronger offensive showing, slashing .282/.374/.491 (157 wRC+) across Brooklyn and Binghamton, with 17 homers and versatile fielding potential.
The trade landscape is complex, but a Miller-Robert Jr. domino effect could drive a multi-team exchange that satisfies all sides. The Mets would gain a controllable, elite closer for years to come.
